![]() It would be nice, but SCS are a small team with a limited time and money budget. Given that, you can understand why they've had to streamline development a little in some small areas.it was probably reuse the junctions as they have done, or not include the UK in the game at all. Given that choice, I'd be happy to have the UK in the game even with inaccurate road design. If in future SCS were able to redesign the country to be more lifelike, then I would be very happy. [3.bp.blogspot.com]Our 'On The Road [blog.scssoft.com]' crew has just arrived from the North Pole. Santa's logistics network is having a hard time coping with deliveries of all the. Vismat wood. But I understand why they were not able to do that at first, so if they are still not able for the same reasons then I will not complain at them for it. Its not even to make them 'exactly as in real life'. It would be nice to simply have some road junctions that actually look like theyre from the UK. The vast majority of junctions just have a straight 2 or 3 lane (+ hard shoulder) run uphill to a roundabout. Then off the roundabout you can turn right onto a bridge wich leads to a matching roundabout on the other side and go straight on to rejoin the road you just left, along with all the exits for the other adjoining roads. Iv not explored the whole in game map yet but i dont recall ever seeing a junction like that. Yes the sliproads are a pain, I think they've got the rights of way all wrong in places and there should be longer merge-in lanes where you are coming off a sliproad onto a dual-carrigeway or motorway, instead of the give-way signs where the ai traffic just sits and won't move even when there is nothing stopping them from moving away. Also where the roads reduce in lanes and the ai traffic will come to a sudden halt in the outside lane and try to let other traffic in can be a nightmare, I've lost count of the amount of close calls I have had there. These are problems on all the roads in the game not just the UK ones. Originally posted by:Some of the roads do have similar features to the real roads, I do wish there was more locations nearer to where I live. The closest to home I can get is Cambridge. How To Install Euro Truck Simulator 2 ModsThere is a 'UK +' mod, which adds 20 new locations in the UK but it doesn't work on the latest build of ETS2. Just got it today on sale for a fiver!! Are there any good mods I should look for? What do peeps recommend? Look for the latest snow mod. U will, also want the mod for tires with chains. Also look for the trailer packs by Jazzycat. All been fine for me to use together. Those are pretty basic mods. Then U can delve into the map mods. I understand what you're saying about all the roads 'looking more like,' but in truth, the game has another complicating factor in road design: Time and distance compression. In modelling, very few people have the room to build an entire railroad in their living room. For example, just to model all the railroad around where I grew up, I'd need building 1,821 feet long if I chose HO scale, and 989 feet long if I chose N scale. Please keep in mind these are some pretty small scales, too. To model these things, real modellers choose two destinations - say Buffalo, NY and Elkhart, Indiana - and build a 'compressed' line between the two places. Often times, in real life, the models they build at both ends are 'compressed,' all towns that make it on the layout are 'compressed,' and when they run the trains, they 'compress time,' too. All to make their model fit in the limited space they have - often in a single bedroom. What *is* modelled is modelled exceptionally well, and is usually a series of scenes constructed in such a way - often using assorted tricks - to photograph well. They also cheat and use whatever landscaping they can to 'hide transitions.' After all, it doesn't take a genius to see that, if you don't find a clever way to hide the transition from Buffalo, New York and Erie, Pennsylvania, the fact the two cities are modelled right next to each other would be pretty jarring. Furthermore, the fact that Buffalo, New York, might be only a half dozen buildings, and Erie, Pennsylvania, might get even less. Well, you get the idea. It doesn't take a genius to figure out this is what they were trying to do with this game. But unlike most models, which are only viewed from static (or roving, but somewhat distant) view points outside the cab, you're literally driving through the terrain. So things like 'transitioning tunnels' are a bit more obvious, and all they can do is blend them in with the scenery that's available. Of course, most people who play this game have no idea what real life model railroaders have to do to build their 'dream layouts.' So it's pretty clear to me most people here would be completely unaware of the problems these truck simulators are wrestling with, and thus would not be able to spot the compromises that were made in an effort to give us what they did.
